Troubleshooting PDF issues

When opening a PDF document from a web link you may receive the following error:

This generally happens with Government documents and is caused by a security setting that is no longer supported by your browser, not by Adobe reader being out of date. In order to correct this you will need to set Chrome to download PDFs not open them directly.

In the address bar (where you enter a webpage, google.com for example) enter chrome://settings/content/pdfDocuments

Move the toggle switch to the right so it turns blue to download files instead of opening them in Chrome.

If you would like to save a few clicks and have the PDF open directly: Download a PDF and right click the resulting file in the bottom left-hand corner of Chrome, in the resulting menu click "Always open with system viewer".

Once these steps are completed the PDF will download and open automatically in your default PDF viewer.
